Sales Training By Bob Beck: Setting Goals

The Power of Goals
One area that I concentrate on with sales experts and professionals during Quid Pro Quo sales training is the power of goals.
Think of it this way, the goal line in football is similar to goals we all strive for in our professional status of becoming a sales guru or trusted advisor, or just in life.
A goal is an ongoing pursuit of an objective until it is accomplished. It is a person’s road map. Whatever you desire in life: buckets of money, the love of your life, a new home, a new body, a successful career, a fresh start, the awe and respect of people who now doubt you, it all can be attained through the astonishing power of goal-setting.
Define where the goal line is for you and work toward crossing that line, no matter what.
Your Future
It doesn’t matter where you’ve been in life or even where you are right now. Your future as a sales expert and professional starts as soon as you establish your goals. The past is behind you. Whether it was good or bad with regard to your accomplishments, it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is where you’re going from here.
Don’t think for a second that your background or education matters. It doesn’t. Neither does talent, skill, ability, age, current situation, knowledge, or pure dumb luck.
The only thing keeping you from the life you want to live is you.
A Clear Vision Is Needed to Set Goals
Some people set goals because they heard somewhere along the way it was a good thing to do. That’s good, but it’s not enough. Without sincere intention and follow-through there’s no sense in going through the motions of setting goals. When you have a clear vision and a burning desire, then you can achieve whatever you put your mind to.
So my question to you is: Do you have a clear burning desire vision for your life and your career?
One thing is certain, you can have whatever you can imagine and are willing to work for, but it all starts with your goals.
Establishing Your Goals
As you establish your goals as a sales expert or professional, ask yourself a few questions:
- Are you absolutely clear on what you want?
- Do you know how your career goal fits with your personal life?
- Do you know what is important to you?
- Do you know how you want both your personal and your business life to be?
- Do you have confidence about your ideas?
- Do you know where you are going?
- Do you wake up each morning full of energy, knowing exactly what you want to achieve that day?
- Are you fired up about your current life and your future?
- Are you excited about what you do?
- Do you find making decisions a no-brainer?
- Do you easily recognize opportunities when they show up.
- Did you stop procrastinating?
- Do you know long-term exactly what you want out of life?
- Are you crystal clear about what you want that other people find it easy to give you what you need?
Look at where you are today, identify where you want to be tomorrow, and create a plan of action to take you there.
